Good Shepherd Sunday

IMG_1246

Happy Monday!
I wanted to share with you all the wonderful message that was in our sermon at church this Sunday. In our church, we celebrated "Good Shepherd Sunday."
The Sermon taught us how, just like sheep, we are very high maintenance to take care of.
We stray, we are lost, we follow what is bad, and we are easily persuaded.
This is not high maintenance in the "bodily sense" but in the "spiritual sense."
We are sinners. Our sinful natures only allow us to do what is bad.
How frustrating that must be for our God?

But oh, how patient and loving his is!
He is our good and faithful shepherd; and he guides and directs us. Keeping us safe and helping us.
We need not fear, for we have him as our guide.

We sang a hymn that I want to share with you!
"The King of Love My Shepherd Is"

I especially like versus 1, 3, 4, and 6

1. The king of love my shepherd is, whose goodness fails me never;
I nothing lack if I am his,
And he is mine forever.

3. Confused and foolish oft I strayed, But yet in love he sought me;
And on his shoulder gently laid
And home, rejoicing, brought me.

4. In death's dark vale I fear no ill with you, dear Lord, beside me;
Your rod and staff my comfort still,
Your cross before to guide me.

6. And so through all the length of days. Your goodness fails me never;
Good Shepherd, may I sing your praise.
Within your house forever!

I found it sung acapella with an acoustic guitar...I like it this way :)

And here's some more pictures from Sunday!
I had an awesome weekend at home with my family. It was full of relaxing, eating, and movie watching! It was some MUCH needed family time.
It was nice and sunny out on Sunday, so we enjoyed time outside, making chicken wings, playing with Annie, and enjoying the spring-time :)

My big brother! He turns 26 this Saturday!

Don't judge...I LOVE my dog, and really wanted to take a lot of pictures of her :)

DISCLAIMER: Josh would like everyone to know that he was joking when we took these pictures with Annie. It breaks my heart to say this...but Annie and him don't get along all to well; Josh isn't too big of a fan of her. My puppy is a little protective :)

I hope you all had lovely and relaxing weekends!
May the Lord bless your week :)

Friday Fancies {Date Night}

When Allison from {long distance loving} announced that this week's "Friday Fancies" would be the theme, "Date Night" I had to jump on the bandwagon immediately!
It's quite fitting considering I will be going home and having a weekend with my main man! Of course, we will have to plan out a date night...so with the help of Polyvore and the "Friday Fancies" link up, I can dream up my ideal date night outfit!
Since Spring is in full swing, and Summer is just around the corner, I decided I would put together a romantic, flowy, ultra adorable maxi dress outfit for you guys. I NEED to get a maxi dress ASAP...maybe even this one. I am drooling over it!

Date Night

Sadly, the weather in Wisconsin is not looking nice enough the debut an outfit like this. It looks like my actual outfit will be looking more like jeans and a cute top.
Maybe something like this...?

Something casual might work best BECAUSE...
I'm planning on making dinner again!
So maybe a casual night is what's in store :)

This brings me to my next order of business!
WHAT SHOULD I MAKE?
I have been looking through my Pinterest board, yum. but have come up a little short {due to my sweet tooth, and eagerness to pin all things sweet!}
I totally have dessert covered! But I need a main dish!
 I was thinking maybe this...?

Grilled Fish Tacos

Do you guys have any recipe suggestions? I would love to hear about them!!

I hope you all have wonderful "date nights" this weekend!
Take time for your Lord and Savior during the next couple of days too :)

YOU ARE LOVED.

It was a long night.
I was stressed.
Upset.
A complete wreck if you will!

I called up my mom, the one girlfriend who always knows exactly what to say.
I prayed.
And everything worked out in the end.

The next day I woke up to a text from my mom that I thought I would share with you; it's pretty great::

"Rae, good morning! Hope your days goes well. Remember, you are loved more than you will ever know by me, and an incredible God! Love you!
-mom

Wow, those were some pretty powerful words.
{isn't my mom fantastic?!}
As Christians, we always remind ourselves how much our God loves us, that He has greater love than is comprehensible. Scriptures tell how great and vast His love is for the entire world.

"How wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ."
Ephesians 3:18

For some reason, this reassurance from my mom reminded me just how personable our God is. He really is with you. And you really are loved by Him at all times.

OUR God. YOUR God. MY God, is oh so incredible, and incomprehensibly good. He loves you  more than you will ever know. He died that you might know him and be with Him for eternity.

When you are lying in bed at night, pouring your heart out to Him, he is sitting there next to you, hands reassuringly resting on your back, comforting you and reminding you that He is with you. You are loved by Him, more than you will ever know.

"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
Isaiah 41:10

Some love is fleeting.
We may think we are loved; but we are let down.
Our love for Him is fleeting.
We may think we are loving Him; and then we fail. We let Him down.
Our love is ever changing. It is not consistent. And we don't love Him everyday as we should.

Our Savior's love is never fleeting.
We can be assured of His love at all times. He never let's us down.
His love never changes. It is consistent. Freely given to us every single day.

YOU ARE LOVED.
MORE THAN YOU WILL EVER KNOW.
BY ONE INCREDIBLE GOD.

{This song by: Dave Barnes, is a wonderful reminder of His unchanging love}

One Thing I Can Do, Is Finger Roll..............

So you’ve got a little less hip in your hop these days?  Slam dunks are slowly turning into finger rolls?  Where at one time you were constantly in a rush to do things and get places, you now utter words like, “relax, we’ll get there when we get there”, and “hey, it’ll get done”.  Don’t look now young Padwan, but you, just like myself, are gradually getting older.  And while it’s true, that in the game of life Father Time will undoubtedly go undefeated, he can be held off with a few tricks.  Some are physical, some are mental, and some are just plain old logic.  Yes in the end he will get us all, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t going out without a fight.  Today we are going to look at a few of these ruses, and see if we can’t keep you as young and exuberant (or at least appearing to be young and exuberant) as I am.  You may want to take notes, because even if you’re not quite there yet, you will be one day, and you’re going to want this information.

First off, don’t buy into the whole birthday and age thing.  The birthday itself, while meant to be enjoyed and celebrated, can be a disaster on your psyche if not understood.  On your birthday, or I suppose possibly a day or three afterwards (right about when the hang over clears up) you have this mental realization that you magically got a year older on that one particular day.  However this is simply not the case.  Truthfully every second, every minute, every day, week, and month you are gradually getting older, until the climatic anniversary of the day you were born.  You don’t stop to think that on that day, you grew no older than you grew the day before that day or no older than you will grow the day after today with relation to existence.  While being able to understand this concept can make you feel like time is passing by and age is coming about faster and faster, subconsciously, natural progression is a lot easier to handle than the impact of one particular day aging you a whole entire year.
Now, if you want to look at things from a completely different perspective (as we all know this is one of my favorite things to do), let us look at age and its meaning.  By definition age is as follows; the length of time that a person has lived or a thing has existed.  The key word in that definition is “time”, and refers to “age” being a measurement of such.  Ok, so what then is time?  Well, Hinduism and Buddhism both believe that time is a manmade social institution that has little to no relevance on the Universe itself or it’s rhythmic of nature.  And in science they will explain that time only exists to define two things.  Ageing (as in this case) and movement.  But the reality of time is simply that it is there but it’s not.  It’s a secondary concept created with little or no true meaning or definition. That being said, time would exist without of any sort of observer (observer being you and I), but it would mean nothing. Time exists independent of man, the idea and meaning of time, however, do not.  Thereby, age is time, and time has no concept, so through association, I have no age as age has no meaning.  (You should probably read that again, I’ll wait……)

Psychology and philosophy aside, let’s look at you from a physical standpoint.  If you do not have a job that is physically demanding, as most of us do not, I urge you, or I suppose I rather insist that you get yourself a gym membership.  You don’t need it to be a daily ritual, but you do need to do something.  Set a goal for say, 5 times a month that you go in there.  And try and raise that by a day a month, schedules permitting of course.  You are going to thank me for this one.  You see one of the main problems people have in their 40’s and 50’s is they lose their ability to maintain their skeletal muscle (or lean muscle if you will).  Skeletal muscle is the muscle that attaches to the bone, and controls most of your movements on a day to day basis.   It deteriorates rapidly in these years creating massive problems for your 60’s and 70’s.  Now, I’m nowhere near my 40’s so why am I worried about this?  Because it’s in your 40’s and 50’s that you begin to pay for your laziness in your 20’s and 30’s.  Because in your 20’s and 30’s, chances are your nowhere near as active as you were in your teens and adolescent years.  Muscle development and staying (somewhat) in shape is not necessarily about the vigorousness of your activities, but more so about consistency.  A handful of days a month in your mid to late 20’s and onward will put problems such as sarcopenia, osteoporosis, and arthritis in your later years off substantially.  It may seem like it’s a little early to be thinking about this shit, but it’s really not, these problems are real, and will catch up to you quickly if you’re not careful.  So skip the bar stool one night a week and go get a sweat, and again, feel free to thank me later.
The brain is something you need to be concerned with as well.  In fact, the brain should be looked at as a muscle, and should be worked out on a regular basis not unlike your legs and arms.  What you don’t realize is this; from birth till about 5 years old all you did was learn.  Everything was new to you, and you soaked all of that in.  It was constant absorption of information.  Then around 6 years old, you started going to school, and they started to teach you things in a more specialized manner.  Math, social studies, art, english, what have you, and the information was anything but challenging, because the information itself was trivial and unimportant.  It was the process of learning and the strengthening of the brain that they were actually focusing on.  Once you hit grade 7 and 8, and on into high school that’s when real specialization started taking place, and things started to get harder.  After high school most of us, (unfortunately myself not included) went on to college and or university, and higher learning continued.  So realistically from the time you were born until the time you finished school, be it 18 or 20 something, you were in a constant state of study.  What happened next?  Well, in all likelihood you got a job, (doing what doesn’t really matter) and after a brief learning period things began to become routine and repetitive (of course there are exceptions, but not a lot). Raise your hand now, if you notice that around that time you started to become a little dumber.  Chances are, if you didn’t raise your hand, you’re lying.  I’d say 70 to 80 percent of all jobs out there do not challenge you and stimulate you from a mental stand point.  And the ones that do eventually become repetitive as well and the learning will eventually stop.  The brain can deteriorate just as quickly (maybe even more quickly) then the muscle in say your thigh’s or chest, if not continually worked on a daily basis.  So read something.  It’s as easy as that.   It could be anything from Playboy or Maxim magazine all the way up to Plato or Descartes, but read something.  There’s such a negative vibe associated with studying, that doesn’t necessarily have to be so.  Do a Sudoku or the daily crossword puzzle, that’s what they are there for, stretch the brain, work it out a bit, watch a documentary, hell, write a blog, do whatever you want to do, but stimulate yourself cognitively on a regular basis, or else just like the rest of your body, you are going to have serious problems in the future.   Think about misplacing your house keys, and how dumb you feel when you do that.  Well, failure to think on a regular basis will eventually lead you to misplace where you live, then you won’t feel dumb, you’ll just flat out be dumb, and it could have been avoided with a little bit of preventiveness.

This would be the time where we shift into nutrition and eating properly.  Since credibility is something I somewhat cherish and enjoy, I’m going to refrain from telling you what you should be eating.  I myself have 4 basic food groups, and they are as follow; pork (and pork by products), beef, deep fried, and coffee.  So I’m not exactly the world’s most leading authority in this area.  My sole contention has and always will be; health be damned, I’m a man and I’ll eat what I want when I want. I don’t see that changing anytime soon either.  It’s all good, we all have vices, right?
And finally but most importantly, the key to holding off getting older, and the secret to success (at least relevant to this cause) is;   just fucking relax.  Understand and appreciate that this is nothing more than a slow walk (a really long, slow walk) from the nursery to the cemetery, so try not to care so bloody much. Think about something that is working you up and stressing you out right now.  And now, discard it.  It seems like it’s a really big deal today, but I can almost assure you, in 6 months or a year from now it’s going to seem ridiculous that you spent so much energy on it.   Go for a walk.   Laugh.   Tell your mom a dirty joke, and then explain it to her when she doesn’t get it.  Date someone 12 years younger than you (if you’re say 28 and younger skip that part, that’s just weird).    Cut your hair how you want to cut it.  Wear the clothes you want to wear.  Just do you, simple and plain.  Cutting unwarranted stress from your life will increase your energy level by at least a factor of 10, and you will undoubtedly sleep better, feel better, and just look better overall.  Regardless of how attractive or fit you may be, there’s no bigger turn off than a guy or girl who is just a constant ball of bent up nerves.  Plus it’s distracting as shit.  And ALWAYS keep this in mind; Slow struts and finger rolls are not only cool as hell, but they reek of wisdom and class.  And wisdom and class is priceless.  I have to go take a nap, remember I’m old now.  But I’ll be back in a couple of weeks, so until next time………

Oh, How Pinteresting!

Hey Ladies
This past week or so has been CRAZY!

I've found some great quotes and inspiring words from Pinterest this past week.
A lot of them have really got me thinking and helped me through my week; so here I am sharing them with you! Enjoy :)

Spring Fling Swap

Hey everyone :)
So I guess it's just a week of friends, because I have another wonderful gal to introduce you to today!

About a month ago, two of my most wonderful and gorgeous blogger friends, Erin and L had the most fabulous idea to host something they called the "Spring Fling Swap"

AllGloriousWithin
You can read all about it HERE

The Spring Fling Swap is all about welcoming the arrival of spring! Erin and L decided that sending a "springy" package to a blogger would be the perfect way to celebrate, encourage and make new friends and connections in this wonderful world of blogging! Basically, you send a fun package to another blogger, receive one in return, and make a new friend!
This is just like Erin and L! They are some of the most encouraging bloggers out there; I just love em' :)
Here's what Erin and L have to say about the swap!

"Don’t you guys love meeting new people and sending them some love? Your package should include a pair of flip flops and other items you think they might like! We want encouragement to be the main goal here!!"

So anyways! I was set up with one fabulous and lovely blogger named, Chelsea, and I am just dying to let you guys meet her.
Chelsea is one amazing Christian woman, living in the state of Texas, serving her Lord as a youth minister. She is one heck of a cook/baker. Hence her blog name, "taste and see."
I had so much fun shopping for Chelsea's package, and I CANNOT wait for her to get it! I also know that she has probably picked something fabulous out for me as well :)
Without any more of my rambling, I'll let Chelsea take over!

 Hey y'all! I'm Chelsea and I blog at taste and see. I'm a twenty-something University of Texas grad, currently serving as a student minister in Austin, Texas. I am so blessed to make a living lovin' on students and serving the Lord! I also love to cook (and eat) everything from decadent desserts to light and healthy dinners. Be sure to come browse the recipes I've posted! I also share what the Lord is teaching me and daily happenings from my life. I'd love to meet you so be sure and stop by!

You can also connect with Chelsea on::

Stay tuned next month when I make a post showing off the fabulous things I received from Chelsea in my package.
Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Meet The Lovely:: Aubrey

For the past few months I have been "sponsoring" other fabulous blogs that I read.
This month, I am "swap sponsoring" with the fabulous, sweet, and adorable Aubrey!
Basically, she writes a feature post about me, I post one about her, we exchange buttons, we get our blogs out there and known to each other's readers, and all is well and happy :)
I'm so excited for you guys to meet her! Make sure you go and check out her blog because you WILL NOT be disappointed :)
You'll also see me being "spotlighted" on her blog today, so you can go check me out as well!

A Lovely Weekend.

Hey there all :)
I hope you guys had a fantastic finish to your week and an awesome weekend!
My weekend was awesome, eventful, relaxing, and productive. Great weekend, right?! RIGHT!

So before I fill you in on what fun I was having this weekend, I just want to give you lovely ladies a heads up.
This girl is CRAZY busy with school at the moment.
These last 5 weeks of the semester are going to be crazy busy, and a little stressful. So I am regretfully letting you know that my schoolwork may take precedence over the blogging world. SAD, RIGHT?! I have to be responsible and put my future at top priority some times...
I'll try to make some posts here and there...I can't completely cut myself off! :)

Friday
It was a night of class on campus! No...not sit in a chair and listen to a lecture kind of class, but the getting all spiffed up, putting a pretty dress on, and looking classy kind of night!
There was an event held on campus called "Puttin On The Ritz"
A night full of classy dressing and playing poker and other games (fake money of course!)
It's fun to get all glammed up once in a while :)

The roomie and I :)

And my future roomie for next year, Megan!
So excited to be living with her next year :)

Saturday
I was so busy with school, I wasn't able to run ALL week! So Saturday morning Linda and I went for a nice long run. MUCH NEEDED.
Then we decided to get out of town and do a little shopping and indulge in some coffee and dessert from Olive Garden :)

Isn't this picture adorable? :)
The trees on campus are so gorgeous during the spring time!

Raspberry Chocolate Cheesecake and the best coffee around!

And as usual, the life of a college student involves endless amounts of homework on Sunday afternoons. I'm about to get to it and be super productive today. Wish me luck!
I hope you guys all had a wonderful weekend! Did you do anything fun?! I wanna know! :)

God's blessings on the start of your new week!

Here's 5 More Minutes of Fame for you, Earl........

First and foremost, my apologies for my absence last week.  I had something written, but I wasn’t exactly satisfied with the finished product enough to post it.  Conceptually it was great, but I just couldn’t get the flow going like I wanted it to go, and in addition I was void of hard statistics and tangibility.  So my expose on the importance of transgendered actresses in the wide world of internet porn will have to wait until I can supply it with a little ‘polish’ and ‘firm’ up the stats a bit.  On the topic of absenteeism, I should tell you now, you may have to become accustomed to it.  One of my promises to myself was to spend a little bit more (or should I say start to spend) time doing the things I want to do, and begin being less task oriented.  So many times on my days off I run myself ragged with errands and odd jobs to the point where I’m exhausted and can’t wait to get back to work so I can relax.  But this year will be different.  For once in my life, I’m going to make a concerted effort to relax, and take in some Brad-Time.  Hit the beach maybe, get down to the ball park occasionally, just do the things I never afford myself the opportunity to do because I always have to be on the go and be productive.  The continuance of the evolution of Brad, if you will.  So if I’m not here on occasion, assume I’m out trying to downgrade my level of O.C.D. and figure out how to unwind and enjoy life.  But fear not faithful readership, I’ll never be gone long enough for you to miss me too much.

We have one topic to hit on this week, and it’s a close to home topic if you will.  We all know how much I hate it when people fuck with my co-workers, so this guy is going to get undressed.  Then I have to do some emergency repair work on my body and find a way to calm down this stomach.  Two double cheeseburgers from the convenience store at 3:30 am was such a genius move at 3:30 am, but right now, I’m in rough shape.  After I right that ship, I’m off to the pool for a swim, than to the gym to give the arms a pump.  And of course tonight is date night, but not just any old date night.  3rd date night in fact.  I have a feeling I’m slowly crawling into the “friends” category with this one (and not the “good” friends category either) so the M.O. tonight will be figuring that shit out.  Oh, and I won’t be around next week,  as me and a handful of guys are going to head down to the baseball game and maybe take in the “ballet” on the way home, all in celebration of the beginning of my next trip around the Sun.  So, let’s nail this guy’s nuts to the floor and get out of here, I’m sure you got stuff to do as well, right?  Enjoy, and until next time…………………………

Earl Campbell’s of the World, With Nothing Better to Do

So one of my co-workers (a collector, not a driver, of course) was caught (again) publicly taking a nap at work, and somehow, someway this is front page news, according to the comedic comic book known as the Toronto Sun.  Now before we get into the article I have to make one thing abundantly clear, I do not condone napping while on the clock.  Probably because I don’t have a position that allows me to sleep while I’m getting paid, but that’s not the point, honestly, in all fairness it shouldn’t be going on.  With that said, I’d like to give you a couple of quotes from the person who snapped the picture of my dozing colleague and sent it in to our favorite daily edition tabloid, err; newspaper.

So says Earl Campbell;
“I needed change for the subway, so I said “Hello”, and knocked on the window”
(Don’t wake people up while they are sleeping Earl, its rude!)

“He moved a little, so I wasn’t worried about a medical condition”
(And how long have you been practicing medicine, Earl?)

 “I actually felt bad not paying, do you believe that?”…..
(Earl, I do not)
Our Hero then goes on to state…………..

“What if there was an emergency?”
(If it was something loud enough Earl, I’m sure the collector would have woken up and handled it).

 And finally my favorite line, and this is rich folks…..
“Or if there was someone trying to vandalize TTC property?”
(Okay Earl that’s enough, no one’s buying your shit anymore).

Look buddy, you took the picture for one reason and one reason only; you finally found a way to get your name in the newspaper. Congratulations, you did it!  And you even get a bonus cameo in what is slowly becoming the greatest blog ever in the history of the internet.  Good for you, now grab some headboard because here it comes.  Earl, you’re a gutless cry baby with nothing going on in your life.  You’re even worse than that Earl.   You’re about as low as they come.  Because now you are a bona fide, no questions asked, little snitch.  You got your 15 minutes of fame for telling on somebody.  How’s that feel?  I hope it feels great man.  You’re lucky this isn’t “Oz” (and I mean the prison, not the fairy tale either, you little rat).  Here’s what I’d like to know, you narc; after submitting this photo and your bravado laden quotes to that rag of a media outlet, did you contact the TTC and, as you should have done because you’re such a fantastic citizen, pay your fare you evaded to pay upon entry to the subway?  That would be what I would expect from someone so genuinely concerned with acts of vandalism and or emergencies at Summer Hill fucking station of all places on a Wednesday night at 9 pm!  I bet you didn’t, did you Earl?  You probably went home and called your mom, and told her what a great guy you are.  I bet you didn’t tell your dad though, did you Earl?  No you didn’t, because you know that if your dad found out his son was out there ratting on people instead of drinking beers with the guys, and banging broads, he’d probably have a heart attack or dis-own you.  “What if someone was trying to vandalize TTC property?”  Get the fuck out of here, Judas.  Here’s something interesting for you, the fine for vandalism of TTC property is $235.  The fine for fare evasion?  $235.  So, in theory, your behavior was no better than you’re rationale for your resulting behavior.  Oh, and for the record, the fine for being an informer is a life time of not being able to look in the mirror, just so you know.  I hear stories every once in a while about a time in society when people only concerned themselves with things that involved them.  It was a good time to be alive, a quiet time in fact.  Should my colleague have been sleeping at work?  No, absolutely not.  But of what concern is it to the “Earl’s” out there, who believe that because they have a camera in their hands, and the Toronto Sun doesn’t have anything better to print, that they get to play judge and jury? No one does anything wrong at their place of employment that supercedes dozing off?  Here comes the part where Earl gets to remind us that tax payers pay this employee’s salary, and Earl is a taxpayer so it’s his business, blah blah blah.   Get off your fucking high horse’s “Earl’s”.  Everybody (I’d bet even an upstanding douchebag like you) ducks out of work early, mails in your effort from time to time or somehow takes advantage of some sort of system or loop hole.  Hell, I’m the greatest bus driver this world has ever seen, and I don’t even do half the shit I’m supposed to do.  It’s just the way it is.  Mind your business, worry about what directly concerns you, and most importantly, have some integrity and stop fucking snitching, it’s just downright pathetic.  Get a fucking life Earl…………………….

What I'm Loving Wednesday :)

Happy Wednesday lovelies!
Here's what I'm loving this week::

I'm loving my grandparents new Shih tzu puppy named, Rosie! She is so black you can't even see her face when you try and take a picture of her! But she was still so dang cute and she stole my heart.
She was giving me kisses in this picture :)

I'm loving...CHOCOLATE!
Lindt and Peanut M&M's were my weakness on Sunday!

I'm loving my Easter outfit that I got from Target :)

Mossimo Supply Co. Juniors 3/4 Sleeve Cardigan - Assorted Colors
I wore the peach colored earrings on the left!
